Enslavement
Illegal collaring exists on Gor. It is primarily conducted by men upon the women of other cities. They capture a woman in an enemy city and then return to their own city, to avoid any consequences in the enemy city. But, if that is done, we should be under the obligation of respecting the sovereignty of that enemy city, respecting their rules. We cannot ignore their rules, even if we dislike them. For if we do not respect their sovereignty, then we cannot expect others to respect our own sovereignty within our own city. And without a respect for sovereignty, we are on a path of chaos that will erode the foundation of our online Gor community.
1. Voluntary submission - This is perhaps the only way a Free Person of New Moon Rising should find a suitable slave. It's certainly the safest and most effective means of finding one that will with less of a doubt be worth keeping. The slave more then likely will have had a chace to get to know it's Owner and wish to be Owned by Them. This is at least the favored method.
2. Forced enslavement's - They are highly frowned upon and at times found to be illegal within New Moon Rising. There are few exceptions to this rule. Forced collaring in general are permitted though frowned upon.
Men
1. All Men are required to wear the color of Their respective Caste when in public. They are not required to do so in the privacy of Their Own Homes even in mixed company.
2. No Man is permitted to have an Owned slave serve Him without the permission of the slaves Owner. To do so is dishonorable. To force the use Another property without permission is to be banished from the City if convicted. (See couching law for Free Women)
3. Force collaring anyone be them Free or unowned slave within the City is unlawful and dishonorable unless under certain stated conditions. To do so if caught is punishable by banishment from the City if convicted.
Free Women
1. Veils are legally mandatory in public and must be worn along with a hair covering.
2. Robes are legally mandatory a Free Woman is required to dress as a Lady. Their bodies should be covered and nothing between Their neck to their feet should be visible through Their clothing when in public or in the company of anyone not of Their House. What One wears in the comfort of Their Home is entirely up to Them. Failure to follow this in public however could certainly result in being collared and enslaved.
3. Free women are commonly treated with respect, courtesy and honor, especially free women of high station or Caste. Free women may often say what they wish, without anyone's permission, and many men will listen to what they have to say. Part of the key is that those free men and women who share a Home Stone have much in common. Thus, they are more apt to listen to the thoughts and feelings of one another. No Free Woman can be forceably enslaved for showing disrespect to a Man. Free Women have the right to speak their mind, though They should rarely try to insult men. Within the city, Free Women do possess the power of free speech and cannot be legally collared for disrespect.
4. "Conduct indicating suitability for a collar” What this means is that if a woman engages in slave-like behavior, (Dressing as a slave and not as a Free Women, wearing a collar, dancing as a slave for the pleasures of the Free or simply stating that One wishes She were in fact a slave) she can be arrested and brought before the Ubar. The Ubar will then adjudicate whether her behavior was sufficient to warrant her legal enslavement (Proof of such activity must be submitted and/or cooberated with other witnesses of the acts). This however also means that a Man cannot take justice into His own hands and collar a Free Woman who He feels engages in slave-like behavior.
5. They may own and operate their own Houses, often Merchant Houses. Their business skills and wealth allow them to possess various degrees of power. Women may own Houses by themselves and wield power through their wealth and status. There are no laws prohibiting their ownership of property or real estate. It is often said that Merchants are power brokers within many cities. Female merchants enter into that equation as well as men.
6. Free women belong to almost all of the Castes on Gor except the Initiates, Players and Assassins. Though there is no specific prohibition against women belonging to the Players and Assassins Castes, the evidence supports their exclusion. Both are Castes you must actively petition to join. Mere birth does not grant one membership in those Castes.
7. Free Companionship is the Gorean equivalent of marriage and it is common to the New Moon Rising. Free Companionship lasts for a single year (InWorldz one month) at a time when it either must be renewed with the wines of love or it will dissolve. The renewal must be performed by the twentieth Ahn, midnight, of the anniversary date. If either party dies or is enslaved, the Free Companionship will also dissolve. It is in New Moon Rising for the parties to voluntarily choose to dissolve, like a divorce, the Free Companionship prior to the year's (InWorldz the month's) end. But, Free Companionship is a very serious matter to Goreans. It is not entered into lightly and seems unlikely that Goreans would see a need to end it earlier than the year's (InWorldz the month's) end. There are others who feel differently about Free Companionship. While it is not necessary for the Free Woman to take the last name of the Male. In New Moon Rising it is permitted if both parties do so agree.
8. A Free Woman may engage in a form of limited self-contracting where she legally becomes a slave for a specific time period, that is decided upon by Herself and the other Free Person. She cannot end this contract earlier than the specified time period. Once the contract takes effect, she becomes a slave with no legal powers at all. The woman becomes an actual slave. In the New Moon Rising she can not be killed or sold.
9. Couching Law: "Any free woman who couches with another's slave, or readies herself to couch with another's slave, becomes herself a slave, and the slave of the slave's master." (Magicians of Gor, p.7) This basically means that a Free Woman cannot have sex with a slave She does not own. It does not prevent Her from having sex with a slave She does own. It also means that She only has to prepare to have sex with Someone else's slave to be in violation. Actual sex is not a requirement. The only time this law is not valid is if the slave is given to the Free Women to use by it's Owner.
10. A Free Woman can sell herself into slavery but once the transaction is completed, it is too late for her to revoke it.
11. In the New Moon Rising, if a Free Woman willingly submits to be a slave to a specific Man, that the woman becomes a slave only to that particular man should He accept her submission. The woman remains free if that particular man does not accept her submission.
12. If a free woman kneels before a man or addresses him as Master, this is sufficient to make her a slave. Her actions are interpreted as a gesture of submission.
13. Free Women are permitted to leave Their homes without the permission of a Male relative or Their Free Companion however They do so at Their own risk.
14. When sitting, free women kneel in what would be considered a tower position. Their hands though lie on their thighs, palms down. Free women maintain good posture while kneeling. Free women do not sit cross-legged as that is only for men. It is considered an insult to men for women to sit cross-legged. Further they don't sit in the positions of pleasure which are for slaves. To do is and act of submission and asking to be collared and could very well end up with the Free Woman as a slave.
15. Free women may own slaves, both male and female. There are no legal restrictions on their ownership rights concerning slaves.
Slaves
1. All Free Persons are to be addressed as either Master or Mistress. A slaves Owner is to be addressed as my Master or my Mistress.
2. slaves will not be forced by laws of New Moon Rising to speak in third person that will be at the full discretion of their Owners.
3. Slaves possess nothing not given to them by their Owner, including their name. What is given can be taken away. If one is entrusted to carry a name for an Owner, or silks or jewelry, remember that these can be removed as easily as they were given.
4. Collared slaves will serve ONLY their Owners or those that they have their Owners permission to serve, and then within the particular restrictions they have been given by their Owners. slaves are on the 'honor system' as far as this rule goes. since each slave carries the Honor of their Master/Mistress in their collar, we trust that they care enough to not disrespect their Master/Mistress by disobeying personal restrictions. Any slave not permitted to serve any Free should only kneel in the position of tower. Further no slave that is not given permission to serve any Free should not entice or tease a Free for doing so will give the Free Person right to expect what is in all honesty being offered by the slave.
5. In public when in the presence of Free Women, slave are commonly required to be more modest. That of course is subject to the owner of the dwelling and if He/She owns the slaves in question.
6. slaves are to dress as their Owners see fit when they are in the presence of their Owners or otherwise. Having a slave go nude outside of One's presence however may be inviting their slave unnecessary stress. It's always wise to think before telling a slave how to dress outside of the presence of it's Owner.
7. slaves should always kneel in the position of tower when not in the presence of it's Owner. Any other type of position is the offering of it's use to the Free that are present. No slave should make such an offer without the permission of it's Owner. If it is forced to do so then the slave should flee and report the offense to it's Owner as well as the Ubar of the City.
*** Homosexual acts within New Moon Rising are generally frowned upon. While it's generally not permitted and is a banish-able offense if caught performing such acts. What one does in the privacy of their own Home is another matter altogether. If however someone is caught red handed or it's proven that the homosexual act was performed. The persons involved face banishment from New Moon Rising. In the case of it being Owned slaves the slaves Owner then will face the consequences for their actions. ***
